The World Cup in NMNM received great feedback and brought significant benefits to the region
Over four days, 82,000 fans passed through the Vysočina Arena to watch thrilling races. “For me, this is a special place, I love it. The fans are crazy, which is perfect,” rejoiced Frenchwoman Julia Simon after her victory in the mass start. Other stars of world biathlon also praised the Nové Město fans on social media. “Thank you, Nové Město, for the incredible atmosphere,” wrote Italian Lisa Vittozzi, who took home two medals from Vysočina.
Another Italian, Dorothea Wierer, was deeply moved as she competed in her final World Cup race of her career in Nové Město na Moravě. Fans stayed in the stands even after the last race to give their favourite athlete a grand farewell. “The fans were truly amazing. I am happy to finish my World Cup journey, which I started here in 2011 at the Junior World Championships, in this way. It makes me happy to see such affection from the fans,” Wierer smiled.
The average TV audience on ČT sport reached 595,000 viewers aged four and over. The total reach amounted to 1.9 million viewers. The bronze medal of the Czech mixed relay was watched by 768,000 viewers, with a total reach of 1.01 million viewers. This is so far the most-watched broadcast of the season.
“The Biathlon World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě is one of the strongest showcases for Czechia – viewers around the world watch not only top-level sport but also the beauty of our landscape. This January date, just ahead of the Olympic Games in Milan, gave Czechia a great opportunity to be even more visible and to spark greater interest in visiting our country. High occupancy rates confirm that the event significantly supports local tourism and the wider region. It brings revenue to hotels, restaurants and services and also shows that athletes like not only to compete at the venue, but also to stay there. In practice, it once again confirms how important tourism is for the economy of the state and individual regions,” says the Director of the Czech Tourism Authority – CzechTourism František Reismüller.
“Specifically in the Koruna Vysočiny area, which includes Nové Město na Moravě, hotels and guesthouses are almost eighty percent full during the biathlon weekend, and people are willing to pay more for accommodation. While during the event the average room price is CZK 7,266, a week later it drops to CZK 3,700. This clearly shows the benefits that the Biathlon World Cup brings to local businesses and the entire region,” Reismüller adds.
The great news is therefore that the World Cup will return to Vysočina over the next four years. In 2027, the races will again take place in a very attractive period from 21 to 24 January. Fans can look forward to sprints, mass starts and relays.
